Eurovision Song Contest 2006
This years Eurovision Song Contest was held at the Olympic Indoor Hall in Athens, Greece on the 18th May 2006 (semi-final) and 20th May 2006 (final). It was hosted by Sakis Rouvas who was the Greek entrant in Eurovision 2004. The final featured a total of 24 acts and the a further 13 did not qualify from the semi-final.

The Final
The finalists in the 51st Eurovision song contest were:
- The four automatic qualifiers France, Germany, Spain and the U.K,
- The top 10 countries from the Eurovision 2005 final (other than automatic qualifiers)
- The top 10 countries from the 2006 semi-final.
Few would have been able to bet on the Eurovision Song contest winner as the winner of this years event was a rank outsider. Prior to the contest Eurovision betting was pointing to either the Ukraine or Sweden as the winner, however for the first time in Eurovision history a hard rock band came first with a whopping 292 points the Finnish band Lordi singing "Hard Rock Hallelujah", second place trailing a massive 44 points was the Russian singer Dima Bilan who would go on to be the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 winner.

- 4th Romania - Mihai Traistariu

Lordi
Lordi are known as "The Monsters Of Finland" due to their elaborate stage make up where they literally do look like real monsters, they refuse to be photographed without their monsters suits on. They began recording together in 2002 and have so far released four, full length albums. In 2006 as well as winning the Eurovision Song Contest they successfully made a world record attempt by getting 80,000 fans to sing along to Hard Rock Hallelujah. They have gone on to world wide acclaim and have appeared at the Download Festival and Ozzfest.
