This year the contest came from Hartwall Areena (yes that is spelt right) in Helsinki, Finland, the semi final was ran on the 10th May with the live final on the 12th May.  In all 42 countries took part, 28 in the semi final and 24 in the final (10 of which came from the semi final).   It was hosted by Finnish television personality Jaana Pelkonen. The event was won by Serbian singer Marija Serifovic who sang in her native Serbian, followed closely by Verka Serduchka who chose to sing in Ukrainian, German and English.

Final

The finalists for the 52nd Eurovision Song Contest were:

  • The four automatic qualifiers France, Germany, Spain and the U.K.
  • The top 10 countries from the 2006 final (other than automatic qualifiers)
  • The top 10 countries from the 2007 semi-final.

The final was held on 12th May 2007. The Czech Republic, Serbia, Montenegro and Georgia all made their Eurovision debuts in 2007.

  • 7th Greece - Sarbel
  • 8th Armenia - Hayko
  • 9th Hungary - Magdi Ruzsa
  • 10th Moldova - Natalia Barbu

Marija Serifovic

Her song "Molitva" was sung completely in Serbian and this entry was the first ever entry into the Eurovision contest as an independent nation. Marija was a successful singer in Serbia before embarking on her Eurovision quest, prior to this years event she had released two studio albums.
